EXCERPT
Then, something strange began to happen to Maisy. She was suddenly reminded of a part of the
pirate book they had been reading. One
of the characters had been marooned on an island before the pirate ship found
him. He had walked through underground caves
and discovered a treasure chest full of gold and jewels. The pirates on the boat eventually stole it
from him.
Maisy’s black and white world briefly shifted to an entirely
new scene. The hallway was no longer just a black and white version of its usual
brightly lit, blue tinted self. The
colors all shifted to a single dull gray hue.
The tiles transformed into wet, stone slabs. The walls were a smooth rock that curved
around the corner. When Maisy reached
the end of the hallway and turned, she could almost swear she heard water
trickling from somewhere up ahead. She could see the door of her
classroom. But, it looked like the wide
mouth of a dark cave. As she followed her
classmates inside, she blinked and her imagination found itself settling back
into her black and white detective world.
ELIZABETH WOODRUM
ElizabethWoodrum has been a teacher for thirteen years. She came to love writing when
she was in elementary school, but more recently began writing material for use
in her classroom. From that writing, grew the desire to write books for the
general population of children and adults alike. The Maisy Files, a children's
series, is the first series that she has published.
As a reader,
Elizabeth prefers the fantasy genre, but she enjoys realistic fiction as well.
Some of her favorite authors include JK Rowling, Rick Riordan, Veronica Roth,
Suzanne Collins, and Nicholas Sparks.
Originally from
Indiana, Elizabeth currently lives in Ohio with her two pets: a cat named
Butterscotch and a dog named Reese Cup.
